The Costa Mesa, CA, Fire Department held their annual
Fire Safety Expo on May 19, 2003. CFE member's rigs on static display
included the Bramm's 1970 ex-LAFD Seagrave, Mike Britt's 1966 ex-Orange
County Crown pumper and his 1970 ex-Culver City Crown pumper and Darrell
Gilbert's ex-Lynwood Crown pumper. Also on display were the Costa Mesa
Firefighters Association's 1961 ex-Orange County Crown 9the original
"Big John" Crown) as well as Orange FD's 1921 ALF pumper. The L.A.
County Fire Museum also brought the 1899 ex-LAFD Metropolitan Steamer
and a horse drawn ladder truck. In-service fire units from Costa Mesa,
Orange County Fire Authority and the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve
Center were on hand along with helicopters from Costa Mesa P.D., Mercy
Air and the Army Reserve. There were many safety and educational
displays as well as firefighting and extrication demonstrations
throughout the day. "Code 3" shuttles were provided for the public to
the train rides at nearby Goat Hill Junction, aboard Mike McDonald's
1956 Ford/Crown Hose Tender (driven by Ned Bixby) and Santa Fe Springs
FD's Anniversary Series Seagrave parade engine.
